ROOFING

Do you Recommend Sealing the Membrane on the Perimeter of the Roof?

I recently relocated to Prescott from Flagstaff and our home in Flag required the membrane to be sealed on the perimeter of the shingled area. Do you recommend doing this on our new Prescott home?

- Rick in Prescott

Rick, this procedure is not required in Prescott. Our winters are not as severe as those in Flagstaff where ice dams may reach up to 2 or 3 feet in thickness on a roof. Although it is possible in higher elevations around our area to have a more severe snow load, it is unlikely within the city limits. Ice and water shield membranes underneath shingles are a good precaution and are sometimes required on commercial structures, but 99% of residential structures are not required to have this feature.
